What makes a landing page different from any other page?
Only that someone arrived on it with a reason. Any page can be a landing page. The home page is one when an ad points at it. What changes is the standard it has to meet: a person who clicked "Same-day garage door repairs, Perth" arrives expecting to read about same-day repairs in Perth, and if the page opens with the company's history and a gallery of new doors, the promise is broken in the first second.
Google Ads judges the same thing. Landing page experience is one of the three parts of Quality Score, and Google Ads Help ("About Quality Score") describes it as how relevant and useful your page is to people who click your ad. A page that matches the ad helps the ad's price and position as well as its results.
What should the first screen answer?
The questions that stop a person ringing. For a repair business, on a phone, that is usually: do you fix my problem, do you come to my suburb, when can you come, roughly what does it cost, and how do I reach you now. A page that answers those above the fold, with the phone number as a button, has done most of its work before anyone scrolls.
Below that sits the proof (reviews and photos of real jobs) for the people who need convincing. Speed matters on the way in: if the main image takes five seconds to load, some of the people you paid for never see the page at all.
How many more calls did a Perth garage door repairer get from its own page? (example figures)
A garage door repair business in Perth with two vans spent $1,800 a month on Google Ads at about $6 a click, sending all 300 clicks to its home page, which mostly showed new door installations.
| Clicks | Calls and forms | Conversion rate | Cost per enquiry | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home page | 300 | 12 | 4 percent | $150 |
| Repairs page | 300 | 27 | 9 percent | $67 |
The new page opened with "Garage door repairs across Perth, usually same day", a call button, the call-out fee ($99, waived if the repair goes ahead), the suburbs covered and a photo of a technician fixing a broken spring. Nothing else changed: the ads and the budget stayed as they were. At an average repair of $380, the 15 extra enquiries a month, closing at about two in three, add up to roughly $3,800 of work a month from one page.
Which reports compare one landing page with another?
In two places. In Google Ads, the Landing pages report (under Insights and reports) lists every final URL with its clicks, conversions and cost. In Google Analytics 4, the Landing page report under Engagement shows every page people entered the site on, from every source, with their key events. Read them together and the weak page is usually obvious.
What does Cora look at on a landing page?
CoraVision compares the ad with the page it leads to. During a session you start, Cora sees your screen as still images, so the ad's promise and the page's first screen sit side by side, which is where most landing page problems are plain to see. Once Google Ads and Google Analytics 4 are connected, conversions and key events are read every night, so the week after a new page goes live shows whether the cost per enquiry fell. You build and publish the page yourself.
Questions
Do I need special software to make a landing page?
No. A page on your own website, made in the same builder as the rest, is enough for most owners. Dedicated landing page tools add testing features, but the gain for a small business usually comes from the words and the layout, which any builder can do.
Can one landing page serve all my ads?
It can, and it usually costs you. An ad for spring repairs and an ad for new door installation make different promises, and one page cannot lead with both. A page per main service, each matched to its ads, is the common fix.
